How to Service and Replace Excelight UV Lamp

Excelight UV Lamp replacement can be a little tricky, check out this easy DIY procedure.

1) Unplug the cord from your electrical outlet and shut off the water supply to the system while releasing the pressure by opening a faucet until water slows to just a trickle.

2) Remove the lamp connector from electrical end cap to expose the UV lamp. While holding the lamp base, remove the lamp 4-pin connector by pulling it up and off lamp. Lamp base can be very hot – be careful not to let the lamp fall into the quartz sleeve as both are easily broken.

3) Remove the lamp from the quartz sleeve and discard.

4) Unscrew and remove both end caps. Remove o-rings at both ends. Carefully slide the quartz sleeve from the stainless steel housing. The sleeve is very fragile and can be easily chipped or broken – be careful when installing or removing it from the stainless steel housing. Do not handle the lamp or quartz sleeve with your fingers. Touch by the ends only or wear soft non-abrasive gloves.

5) Clean the quartz sleeve with vinegar or a scale-removing product like Lime Away or CLR.

6) Check the quartz sleeve o-rings, if they look worn or cracked, replace them and install the quartz sleeve.

7) Install the new lamp by reversing the procedure described in #2 above, being careful not to touch the lamp with your bare hands

8) Slowly open shutoff inlet valve and to purge air from the system.

9) Check to make sure there are no leaks  before connecting the power to the system.

10) Reset the UV Power Source. The Lamp Life Days (lamp change reminder timer for models built after February 2011) is reset by disconnecting the UV power source from the AC power supply, waiting for 15 seconds and then reconnecting the AC power supply with the push button depressed till screen displays “rSEt” followed by a short audible beep, the number “365” shows on the screen indicating that the reset was successful. (For models prior to February 2011 a three seconds beep indicates the successful power source reset)

11) Open outlet valve and purge air from system at a nearby faucet.

12) If you have any concerns about bacteria being introduced into the system, disinfect your household plumbing.
